mid-tier data center · DCIM extended with LoRaWAN.

A Mexican mid-tier data center (non-hyperscaler) has legacy DCIM controlling aggregated power and temperature, but real gaps in per-rack, sub-floor, outdoor perimeter and secondary UPS room coverage. LoRaWAN extends the DCIM with granular sensors publishing to the NMS via MQTT or consolidated with the existing DCIM via BMS integration gateway bridge.

what's at stake
rack hotspotaggregated DCIM hides per-rack hotspots that break SLA
sub-floor leakwater or refrigerant under raised floor = DC shutdown
client SLAper-event penalty · cancellation at 2-3 incidents
>./puntos·point by point

this is how we look after your building, from the inside.

Each number is a point where a wireless sensor works for you — and the specialist tells you what to do. You install only the ones that apply to your building. The color says what each one protects:

filter:
your building · over the planisometric map of a corporate building
1smart climatewe cool only what's occupied; we show you the saving in kWh
2service entrance · main panelthe CFE bill in real time: demand and power factor before the surcharge
3server roomwe alert you to heat or water before you lose the critical equipment
4air quality per floorcontinuous CO₂ and comfort: evidence for LEED and STPS
5restrooms · water leakswe alert you to the overnight leak before the damage
6elevatorsthe current signature that catches wear before the breakdown
7lobby · footfallwe show you how many people and when, for staffing and security
8sub-panel per floorwe separate the AC from the lighting: you see where the bill goes
9cistern · waterwe alert you before you run out of water in the building

★ the specialist crosses signals. In climate (1) it crosses occupancy × consumption: it cools only what's used and measures the saving in kWh. Already have a BMS (Niagara, BACnet, Modbus)? We integrate it read-only into the same panel — one place for the whole building.

>./workflow·how the data travels

from sensor to report · every five minutes · without human intervention

Five steps. They run in parallel across all your sites, all the time. When something crosses a threshold, the flow completes in under five minutes — alert delivered, response logged, inspector-ready evidence captured.

01

measure

Sensors measure temperature, humidity, current, door-open, leak and other magnitudes every five minutes — no operator required.

02

detect

The system compares each reading against the threshold configured per recipe · per site · per equipment. Threshold crossing triggers the flow.

03

alert

The alert routes to the right person via WhatsApp, email or push · per role and schedule configured.

04

respond

The operator acts from the dashboard or mobile app. The corrective action goes into an immutable log with timestamp + signature.

05

audit

Everything becomes part of the audit package · time series, critical events, corrective actions, NOM report ready in two clicks.

Five steps · no manual operators · no paperwork · no gaps.

>./faq·VI · common questions before the quote

common questions · before the quote.

does AstreaIoT replace the existing DCIM?

No · AstreaIoT extends the legacy DCIM · does not replace it. The DCIM (Struxureware, Trellis, dcTrack, Nlyte) keeps controlling PDU + power management. LoRaWAN adds per-rack, sub-floor, perimeter, secondary UPS granularity · publishes data to DCIM via API or BMS integration gateway.

is it compatible with Schneider Struxureware and Vertiv Trellis?

Yes · integration via REST API + webhooks. AstreaIoT publishes LoRaWAN data to existing DCIM · DCIM shows new points in its dashboard without reconfiguration.

how is each rack covered without pulling cable?

LoRaWAN sensor per rack mounted on rack front and/or rear · powered with long-life battery (3-5 years). No additional cable pull · no touching PDU or existing cabling.

does it comply with ASHRAE TC 9.9 envelope?

Yes · ASHRAE envelope (recommended and allowable) configured per rack in dashboard. Alert when rack leaves envelope. Monthly per-colocation-client report with documented compliance.

what about colocation client SLA in case of incident?

Immutable per-sensor log with timestamp · automatic report for colocation client documenting event and response. SLA defense with data · not with post-hoc narrative.

does it integrate with NMS or ITSM (ServiceNow, BMC Remedy)?

Yes · via Custom Integration. Critical alerts + automatic tickets to ITSM · NOC operates with familiar flow · automated escalations.

what about Uptime Tier III/IV certified DCs?

Compatible · AstreaIoT is a parallel monitoring addon · not part of the critical power or cooling path. Tier certification is not affected. For Tier IV, we recommend reviewing the integration plan with the certifier to confirm.

>./roi·VII · why this is good business

granular DCIM · colocation client retained.

ASHRAE
TC 9.9 per rack · colocation client retained · SLA backed with data · legacy DCIM intact

For mid-tier data centers, the ROI is colocation client retention: contract renewal depends on per-rack SLA documentation + ASHRAE compliance documentation. Without per-rack granularity, the client looks elsewhere. One single significant colocation client renewal pays the whole DC system.

The winning argument is the combination of per-rack granularity + sub-floor coverage + generator continuity, without replacing the legacy DCIM. The existing DCIM integrator does not compete with AstreaIoT · they can work with us to deliver colocation clients a more detailed service.

The decision is not whether to invest; it is how much it costs not to when the next per-rack hotspot breaks SLA, or the next sub-floor leak halts the DC.
